So, it’s Friday afternoon. I’m bored… The BBC has this story which is pretty cool.

excitementI think that I forgot to mention this before, but Marcus du Sautoy is coming! |
back in St AndrewsWell, I’m back in St Andrews, with all of 3 days worth of clothes, my laptop, diary and a book about linear analysis. I also advised and matriculated in about 45 minutes. Now I’m sitting in Lucy’s room in McIntosh. I just check my mail and received the following e-mail from Len:

oh, and one more thingI present, for your consideration, the dogcow. |
last full day at home…Well, I’ve been fairly productive today. I ordered £400 of train tickets for a start. I’ve also half-packed all my stuff to go back tomorrow and sent numerous e-mails to St Andrews about missing advising but have yet to get anything back. Argh. From the internet: if pirates ruled and Bad Design Kills! I’m now listening to a play on Radio 4 about a boy who wears kaliedoscopes on his eyes to pretend to be like Pink Floyd and pilots a messerschmitt made from a dustbin in him mother’s back garden. |
still at home…So… I’m chilling at home mostly this week. Not terribly interesting but nevermind. I watched A Beautiful Mind last night which was quite good. Also I found an interesting node on perlmonks about keeping multiple (programming) languages in your head, which lead me to Ruby on Rails which is an excellent appplication of Ruby for web development. It basically uses a template system to create websitres really quickly. However there is a lot more to it than that, for a start you can manipulate the site through the objects using a command line on the host, as well as having a very simple way to After getting fed up with vi in OS X (the Cocoa version) I’ve found a new editor that seems to be pretty neat. That being Smultron, which (despite its name) is a pretty nice peice of software. It does the usual syntax highlighting, etc but also lets you drag and drop “snippets”, which is very useful (from my point of view at least). Unfortunately it lacks an S+ or R syntax highlighting scheme but I’m sure I’ll get bored one day and make one.. Finally, I found a link about Hexstatic doing some videobusking which looks very very cool. So, I guess home isn’t that boring after all… |
BanksyThis has been on the news but a better selection of pictures of Banky’s latest work is here. |
at home…Well, I’m at home. At last. Went to Newcastle for the first time in ages today, it was okay, I didn’t really do very much just wandered around a bit and had some tea. I also got a very geeky advert via e-mail… Tunes from Wolfram based on cellular automata. Also FireFox users should probably read this. |
ADS workshopsVery tiring day today, and I still have 2 hours to go. But I’ve had fun and learnt quite a bit. I thought that I had fixed the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Cramer-von Mises tests in the On the “stupid web links” front, I have an article about the entropy in iTunes and an article about making widgets for Tiger. |
synergyOkay, so… uber coolness! I have synergy running on my Mac and my PC at work. This means I can use the same keyboard and mouse for both of them. This is 1 - so geeky it hurts and 2 - really cool! In other news… it is now a criminal offence to look like Jack Straw. |
