Global Village mailing lists….

I just received the following e-mail from the [Stage06] e-group:

Me, I'm easy.
about 150kw of Martin Audio line array and a truck load of Martin 500's
will do for a start
(anyone sourced that rather large laser yet)

back from Brighton

Well, I had a great time in Brighton. I am very tired, I also have a lot of stuff to do so this will be short. Pictures are available here!

thermodynamics

I am in the microlab again. I have lots to do…

“There are four law of thermodynamics. The third of them, the Second Law, was recognised first; the first, the Zeroth Law, was formulated last; the First Law was second; the Third Law might not even be a law in the same sense as the others”
-P.W. Atkins

hmmmm….

lab tastes of Iron Bru and Crunchie bars

Just a bit of linkage really the Open University opens it’s courses and a double helix nebula.

Also, I saw Simon Singh speak today, it was pretty cool, although why thhe University decided to have him talk in the Purdie building when Physics lecture theatre A is sooo much bigger is beyond me…

How fast? How about as fast as the Fastest Fourier Transform in the West?

Anyway, I was told at the weekend I had been described by someone at St Andrews as “a dangerous Marxist.” Needless to say, I’m very very proud.

layout

It appears that bullets don’t look right in this layout, that sucks.

At the moment I’m rather busy doing Uni work, I am enjoying it though. I think that this semester’s modules are the most fun combination that I’ve done yet. Also, I have an electronics lab this afternoon… Oh, and joy there is some debating thing this weekend so my house will be overrrun with morons. **sigh** Finally, I got my credit card stolen/lost this weekend so that sucks too… gah!

skiing

I’m in the microlab. I am very tired. I also keep wanting to type HTML as LaTeX. Currenly I am trying to simultaneously:

  • Finish my lab report.
  • Write an agenda for London Forum.
  • Sort out media things for Global Village with Nick.
  • LaTeX my notes.
  • Do tomorrow’s MT2005 tutorial.
  • Learn Gauss’ Law.
  • Jessie sent this to me on MSN which is nice…

    quotes…

So I’ve been to a lot of lectures recently. Dr Wan has come up with a lot of insights into quantum physics which can only be described as “inspired”. He made a great analogy between wave-particle duality and people on valentines day. My favourite being:

“… so, in Newtonian dynamics we see that outcomes are deterministic. If you punch the person next to you one of two things will happen: either they will punch you back or they will scream like a girl.”
    <some time later>
“… but, in quantum theory, we don’t know what will happen. If we kick an electron no one knows what it will do… maybe it will love it!”
